Meet OEX team LaJolla

OEX Kearny Mesa began as Angler’s Yak Shack in 2007. What started out as a shop that produced and sold an internal bait tank system called the KayaTank grew and morphed into a full on kayak fishing retail shop. Then, in 2008, OEX and Angler’s Yak Shack was fortunate enough to merge with San Diego Kayak Adventures of Kearny Mesa and its head, Rik Osanai. With SD Kayak Adventures extensive experience and knowledge of all things paddling, and OEX’s knowledge and reputation in kayak fishing, OEX Kearny Mesa has turned into central San Diego’s biggest retail kayak shop. Of course, we specialize in Kayak Fishing, but we cater to ALL paddlers.

Our crew is small, but packs a punch! We specialize in kayak fishing and if we are not in the shop, we are out on the water searching for something to catch. Our crew has over 15 yrs of overall paddling experience, including whitewater kayaking, surf kayaking, and sea kayaking, and of course kayak fishing All the time on the water we have spent over the years has allowed us to pass along our knowledge and expertise in everything from paddling techniques to rigging your kayak for fishing. We can also take you out on the water for kayak fishing lessons or just a paddling lesson. If you are really feeling adventurous we can help you get into surf kayaking or whitewater kayaking!

Rik Osanai: Rik is an ACA Certified kayak instructor and is an aspiring cowboy and a proud Hoosier. What’s a Hooiser you ask? Google it. He has been paddling half his life and has paddled up to Class 5 whitewater in California, Idaho, North Carolina, Georgia, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Indiana (yes, Indiana). These days his time on the river has been cut since he go hooked on kayak fishing.

Forest Heitert: Forest is one laid back dude. He is the drummer for local reggae band High Tide and can be seen jamming out all over San Diego. When he’s not out get chased by groupies, he is in class at UCSD’s Engineering program, kayak fishing, or working at the shop. He can help you with any kayak fishing questions you have or rig your kayak.
